Outdoor lighting. Growing popularity in LED lighting outside of the home has grown quite a bit in recent years due to advancements in this technology. Not only are LED lights more energy efficient than traditional lights, they are offered in a variety of shades and colors. Expect to see these fixtures strung from patio coverings to trees across your neighbors’ backyards.

Subtle design. Gone are the over-the-top garden designs. Minimalistic patterns and simple lines are going to be the trend in 2016. Gardens that are easy to maintain, as well as simplified furniture and other outdoor accessories are making their way into the spotlight.

Multi-purpose plants. Flowers and other plants are beautiful, but an emerging theme is multi-purpose plants. Vegetables and fruits have been a reoccurring trend, but other less likely items, such as aloe or grapes, can be used for food and other at-home remedies.

Quality materials. Flashy design is on the outs, but great quality material still prevails. Natural surfaces, such as blue stone patios, will be used frequently while redesigning outdoor spaces. From the ground to walls and other surfaces, homeowners are already covering their yards in resources that will last.

Water use and conservation. It’s no surprise that water has been a growing concern in many areas of the United States. Water conservation and utilizing rain water has been a sustainable trend that will continue through next spring and summer. Designs with minimal grass and water features that allow for recycling allow for better peace of mind and a great look.
