Our team at Cataldo Landscape are experts in creating beautiful landscapes in Needham, Wellesley, Newton, and across Massachusetts. Jerry and the crew design beautiful combinations of plants, trees, masonry work, and shrubs that not only complement your natural landscape but also fit your style and taste. There are many different ways that shrubs can enhance the quality and aesthetic of your landscape design. Here are some of our favorites to use in the Greater Boston area.

Rhododendrons

These woody plants are ideal for those looking to add a pop of color to their yard. Rhododendrons can bud early and produce beautiful pink, purple, white, or red flowers. They are low maintenance and prefer equal parts shade and sunlight.

Azaleas

Azaleas produce beautiful flowers and come in a variety of shapes, colors, and sizes. Azaleas thrive in the New England climates and provide color from spring all the way through the fall.

Arborvitae

Arborvitae is an evergreen which can be utilized to make beautiful, full hedges. This evergreen flourished in full sunlight or partial shade, and are extremely tolerant plants.

Holly

It isn’t just meant for the holiday season! The holly grown in New England produces bright red, yellow, or orange berries. In the spring, they will bud with small white flowers. Holly is a medium-sized shrub and is deer resistant.

Lilac

Of all the shrubs out there, lilac offers one of the most notable fragrances. They sprout small buds, have great color variation, and are beautiful. With different species to choose from, you’re bound to find the type of lilac that looks great in your garden.

Forsythia

Forsythia bushes are yellow and are luscious. This dramatic shrub needs plenty of direct sunlight and can give your yard the pop of color you have always wanted. The flowers bloom in the spring, making for the start of a beautiful garden for the summer season.
